Medical Diagnostics Centre

Proposed Medical Diagnostics Centre

For Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, NAUTH Nnewi.

Description:

Simple & Functional With Elements of Attraction.

A simple cluster of linked geometric forms, enveloped with vertical concrete elements.
The project was inspired by the events leading up to the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), in Nigeria, following the arrival of a Liberian Diplomat Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, on July 20, 2014.

There were no BSL-4 labs in Nigeria at the time to handle the highly infectious virus that caused 11,325 deaths.

The design did not just seek to cover end to end
functionality right from patient registration to conducting lab and imaging tests & result updating; it also sought to provide a Bio-safety Level 4 Facility to handle high risk and infectious pathogens for which no immediate cures or vaccines are available.

Project Location:

Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra.

Project Type:

Studio IV – Final Semester Design Project – Department of Architecture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

paper as required by the Department of Architecture, Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
